How to use

The one thing to know: shampoo is for your scalp, not the lengths of your hair and a bar needs a moment with water to get going.

  1. Wet your hair and the bar properly, water is what activates it.
  2. Rub the bar between your hands to build up a lather (treat it a bit like a soap bar) the bar will last longer this way
  3. Massage the lather into your scalp, not the lengths. That's where the oil and build-up actually are; the lather rinsing down cleans the rest.
  4. Rinse well.
  5. If you don't feel properly clean first time, simply repeat, lather, massage, rinse again. A second round is normal, especially on wash day.
  6. Let the bar dry out between washes so it lasts.

P.S. if you don't let it dry between washes it will go mushy.

Do's

  • Do wet both your hair and the bar first, water is what activates it and gets the lather going.
  • Do work up a lather in your hands (treat it a bit like a soap bar), or rub the wet bar gently onto your head, then massage it in.
  • Do focus on your scalp, not the lengths, that's where the oil and build-up actually are and cleaning it well is the whole job.
  • Do go in for a second round if you don't feel properly clean first time, lather, massage, rinse, repeat. It's normal, especially on wash day.
  • Do let the bar dry out between washes (a draining dish or a spot out of the stream) a dry bar lasts far, far longer.

Don'ts

  • Don't expect instant bottle-style foam, a bar needs a moment to react with the water before it lathers. Patience for ten seconds.
  • Don't scrub the bar down the lengths of your hair, the lather rinsing through cleans those; dragging it along just wastes product and roughs up the cuticle.
  • Don't panic during the first week or two, if your hair feels different as you switch, your scalp is recalibrating after years of liquid shampoo, not breaking.
  • Don't leave the bar sitting in a puddle, a bar left in the damp really does go mushy and disappears fast.
  • Don't write it off after one wash. Give it a couple of weeks to settle in, first impressions of a bar aren't the full story.

Ingredients Decoded

Not all formulas are created equal and not all ingredients are functional at the same amount. An ingredient can do real work at the right level and next to nothing at a token one, so a name on a label means little without the nuance behind it. It's all about the right ingredients, at the right amounts, each with a job to do. Below are a few of the ones doing the most visible work, but every ingredient in this formula earns its place.

Matcha Powder

The antioxidant

Calm scalp, better base for growth. Yes, actual matcha. It's loaded with antioxidants, especially EGCG, a green-tea catechin, that help soothe the scalp and shield it from the everyday oxidative stress that leaves skin and hair struggling. And since healthy hair genuinely starts at the scalp, calming and caring for that skin is the foundation everything grows from.

PCA Glyceryl Oleate

The replenisher

Every shampoo cleans by lifting away oil, that's simply how cleansing works. Derived from vegetable-sourced glycerin and oleic acid, combined with PCA, a moisturising component your own skin naturally produces. In other words, it gives your scalp back something it already recognises.

Broccoli Seed Oil

The natural silicone

Slip and shine, without the plastic.
Yes, broccoli. It's naturally rich in erucic acid, which coats each strand in a light, glossy film, so you get the smooth slip and gloss that silicones give, but plant-based and without the build-up that eventually leaves hair limp and dull. It smooths the cuticle, tames frizz, and stays lightweight instead of greasy. This is the ingredient doing the job most brands hand to silicone.

Rosemary Oil

The scalp favourite

A fresh finish your scalp will like. Rosemary essential oil gives the bar its clean, herbaceous scent and it's disclosed honestly, not hidden behind the word "parfum." Rosemary is also traditionally loved for the scalp and rich in antioxidants. It's having a real moment in hair care, and while the growth evidence is still emerging, we won't promise miracles, just a fresh, scalp-friendly finish.

Now for the rest of the ingredients in the formula:

Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate

A very mild, coconut-derived cleanser. It builds a soft, creamy lather and cleans gently, without the tight, stripped feeling harsher shampoos leave behind.

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate

Another gentle, coconut-derived cleanser. Mild but effective, it clears away oil and build-up without stripping the scalp. It's also our "skin over a certificate" choice, picked for its mildness over a harsher alternative that would have scored better on a natural certification.

Cetearyl Alcohol

A fatty alcohol, which sounds alarming and isn't. It's the softening, conditioning kind (the opposite of the drying alcohols people fear): it smooths the hair, adds slip, helps seal in moisture and gives the bar its solid structure.

Oryza Sativa Starch

Rice starch. A natural starch that absorbs excess oil and leaves a soft, silky finish, so hair feels clean and light rather than heavy.

Cetyl Alcohol

Another fatty alcohol, lighter and silkier. It adds glide, smooths the cuticle for shine and helps everything spread evenly. Softening, not stripping.

Stearic Acid

A plant-derived fatty acid that gives the bar its firm, long-lasting structure so it doesn't dissolve in a week — with a little conditioning benefit too.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride

A light, coconut-derived emollient. It gives slip, softens without a greasy feel, and carries the oils and essential oils evenly through the bar.

Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter

Cocoa butter. Rich in fatty acids, it forms a soft protective layer that seals in moisture, eases dryness and keeps hair pliable and soft and it smells quietly wonderful while doing it.

Hydrolyzed Oat Protein

Tiny oat proteins that cling to the hair's surface, improving strength and resilience so it's less likely to snap, helping it hold onto moisture, and leaving it smoother. Honest bit: it supports the surface of the hair, it doesn't rebuild it from within, because nothing topical truly can.

Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil

Argan oil. High in fatty acids and natural vitamin E, it softens, nourishes and adds shine while staying light enough not to drag hair down.

Tocopherol

Vitamin E. An antioxidant doing two jobs: it keeps the natural oils in the bar from going off, so it stays fresh and lasts, and offers hair and scalp a little protection from everyday oxidative stress.

Cedrus Atlantica Oil/Extract

Cedarwood. The warm, woody note in the natural fragrance, with a soothing, grounding reputation for the scalp.

Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil

Argan oil. High in fatty acids and natural vitamin E, it softens, nourishes and adds shine while staying light enough not to drag hair down.

Camphor*, Limonene*, Pinene*

Here's the honest part: these aren't added on their own, they're naturally occurring components of the rosemary and cedarwood oils. EU law requires us to name certain fragrance components so anyone with a sensitivity can see exactly what's in here. So we do, out loud, instead of hiding them inside "parfum." That's what the asterisk means.
